Making an action:

All units in your army can move once and make an attack action. If all your units have made an action, the turn is over.

Each unit is different. Some units can move move further than others. In the same way, some units can make multiple hits in a single attack, or attack from long or melee range. Check the Stat Sheets for the possibilities of each unit.

Attacking and defending:

If you decide to attack another unit, the attack can be either successful or unsuccessful. This outcome will be decided by two actions: attack and defense.

The attacker makes an attack roll with a 6-sided die. A result of 3 or higher means the attack is successful and your unit has hit the target. If your unit has multiple attacks, roll a die for each attack. Each unit can only attack one target at a time.

The defender makes a defense roll with a 6-sided die for each successful hit from the attacker. A result of 3 or higher means the defending unit is not hurt by the attack, and the attack is unsuccessful If your unit his hit by multiple attacks, roll a die for each attack.

Each successful attack decreased a hit point of the target.

Defeat:

A unit is defeated when if it has suffered successful attacks equal to their hit points. A unit that is defeated can no longer be used and is removed from the game.

Movement:

The distance your model can walk per turn. Models can either walk 6 or 12 inches. The movement distance of most units is 6 inches, unless your model is a Brawler.

Hit Point:

How often your character can get 'hit'. Also referred as how many 'lives' a model has. Most models have 2 Hit Points. That means they if they get hit 2 times, they die and you must remove them from the game.

Battle Armies have either 1, 2 or 4 Hit Points. Only Commanders have 4 Hit Points, that means they can absorb 4 attacks before they die.

Ranged Attack:

An attack from a range, or 'shooting attack'. That means your model can attack if it's away from another model. Models can perform shooting attacks from 6 or 12 inches away, but not all models have a ranged attack, though.

Range:

Maximum Distance a model can shoot from. This is either 6 or 12 inches, if they have a shooting attack. Sharpshooters are the only units in the game that can attack from 12 inches distance.

Melee Attack:

Attacks from close range, or 'melee range'. That means your model can only attack if it touched another model. You cannot perform a melee attack if your model is not touching another model. This can be challenging, but most models have more melee attacks than ranged attacks. A model can have 1,2 or 4 melee attacks, if they can attack from close range.

Special Rules:

Some units will have special rules, like the Support unit. For the specific rules of each model, please check the Unit Overview or, if you want to learn more rules, check out the Glossary

Before the game:

Each player selects his army. Make sure each player has an equal amount of units before starting the game. Different types of games and examples on how to select your squad can be found in the Game Setup. Just remeber that Elites, Brawlers and Sharpshooters are about the same strength, so they can be mixed up as long as the total number of models is the same as your opponent. If you decide to play any Commander, Support or NPC units, make sure your opponent also has the same type of units in his army.

Turn 1:

Decide who plays first by rolling a die. Whoever throws the highest number goes first.

The player who goes first, makes the first turn. Pick and select a unit and move it the amount of inches it is allowed to move (6 or 12) or less.

If your unit is close enough to an enemy unit for a ranged attack (6 or 12 inches), you may make a ranged attack. Check your units' stats to see at what range it is able to attack.

If your unit is touching the base of another unit, it may make a melee attack. Check your units' stats to see if, and how many melee attacks it can make.

Move and attack with your models one by one until all your units made an action.

You may choose not to make an action with your unit, if you declare so.

Turn 2:

Player two is at turn now. This player can now move and attack with his or her units as desired. Select with what units you want to make an action with. Remember to check your units' stats to see what the unit can do.

You may choose not to make an action with your unit, if you declare so.

If all your units have made an action, the turn is over.

Turn 3:

The next player is at turn now. If there are only two players, player one is at turn again.

If there are more players in the game, progress to the next player until all players had a turn.

After all players had a turn, player one is at turn again. Repeat this until a victory is achieved.

You can use terrain to bring variety in your game. A piece of terrain is any object in the game area that your units can interact with. For example a gate, a containers or fences. Basically anything that can occur a real battlefield.

To play the game with terrain, only allow an attack if the attacking unit can see the target unit. If the target unit is hidden behind a wall for example, an attack is not possible on the hidden unit.

Using terrain can really spice up your game. Make sure to rearrange your terrain with every game, so no two games are the same!
